About Maria Valtorta
Maria Valtorta (1897–1961) was an Italian Catholic mystic and spiritual writer, best known for her profound writings on the life of Jesus Christ. Born in Caserta and later residing in Viareggio, she spent much of her life bedridden due to illness, offering her suffering in prayer and devotion.
Between 1943 and 1947, she recorded a series of visions and inner locutions, which she believed were revealed by Jesus and the Virgin Mary. These writings were later compiled into her most well-known work, The Poem of the Man-God (also published as The Gospel as Revealed to Me), presenting a detailed and meditative narrative of the life of Christ.
Although widely read and spiritually enriching for many, her writings are considered private revelations and are not officially endorsed as divine revelation by the Catholic Church. Readers are encouraged to approach them with discernment.
Maria Valtorta’s legacy continues to inspire those seeking a deeper reflection on the Gospel and a more intimate understanding of Jesus’ life and teachings.
